I recently discovered a mead wine called
Blanc de Fleur and made by
Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery . The Mead is made from honey collected by bees from the nectar of wildflowers in the prairies of the Midwest. It is a semi dry style mead similar to a Riesling however it has a floral honey aroma and a crisp fruity flavor.
Blanc de Fleur by Wild Blossom Winery won the 2005 International Mead Competition Gold Medal.
Why is drinking mead good for the environment?
Each bottle of mead contains the nectar of two million flowers, which means ten or twenty million seeds were pollinated. This makes Mead nature's #1 sustainable beverage since it does not require cropland, cultivation, irrigation, pesticides, or fertilizers. What it does require are wildflowers and happy bees! Not only is mead completely sustainable and almost without waste, but it actually nourishes the Earth. The bees pollinate the flowers and sustain the cycle of life and rebirth of the Earth while producing delicious honey that can be turned into a very refreshing beverage.
If you live in Illinois and see
Blanc de Fleur on the menu at a restaurant try this refreshing mead wine. You will be helping the environment by buying a local product.
